Everytime I go to load up a new map on a character or something, it loads up another 50-1000 files and these can usually be from 0.5gb to 100gb and it's lagging my brother behind me (On WoW) and he gets angry and well, that's not good =\

Anyone know how to stop this?

I installed it from the site (I have all the discs)

And I think I might have -imaged

I think that if you use the image function it does all the downloading before you run the game because it cannot run with -image. I do not think there is much you can do about it.

So I should un-install it and re-install through the discs?

No no - that would be worse. I think you probably didn't image, otherwise this wouldn't be happening.

Try again - I would suggest having 2 GW shortcuts, one with the -image and one without, so you can repeat the imaging process whenever necessary.

Do the -image when your brother isn't playing WoW - or tell him that's just how WoW is; laggy as hell!

Hmm.. would an auto-login directory thing be like a second shortcut?

*So I should download 66804 files instead of re-installing by discs?

If you dont want to mess about with the short cut, then do this.

Go to Start, the click Run, type in "C:\Program Files\GuildWars\Gw.exe" -image
Then sit back and let it download, the speed is depending on your connection.

*Your gw folder might be different if you installed it somewhere else.

I'm not too sure what you mean there. I have two GW shortcuts on my desktop - one that reads pretty much like Etta's run command above, which is purely for downloading all the files as necessary and another that reads C:\Program Files\GuildWars\Gw.exe" -password bumgrapes - which auto logs in without typing my password. Use that one with caution though, your password is then available to anyone with access to your computer as it is plain text in the shortcut.

@NathanMurray - yes, that's precisely what it's for. The only time you will download files after using the -image switch is when there is a large update, like, er, Canthan New Year.

When you install the game again, it only installs a gw.dat that was current at that chapter's release, so you would still be left with massive file downloads.

Yes, Nathan. What -image does is download everything in one go, so you dont have to wait for the game to download while you're playing.

Best use after you install or reinstall the game, or during a big update. As for the install cd/dvd, GW:EN's dvd has the most up to date data (as the date of release) on it. You still need to dl more files after that though.

And I just want an idea, on an average of 25kb/s, how long will it take to download 66477 files?

At that speed, assuming it's constant, a fresh gw.dat would take approximately 41 hours to download (assuming my math(s) is correct)

Assuming that you actually get an average of 25kbps (you may get more later at night, since network load is somewhat decreased) it would probably take about as long as you said, Snograt. I used to play GW on dial up, so I know what he's going through.

Either way, that sucks pretty bad. But it's definitely better to run the -image command beforehand, especially if you want to play with other people. They tend to get a little pissy if it takes you ten minutes to load a zone. Heh.

That is pretty much dead-on. I have Dial-up and everytime I would get a pug they'd kick me, or i'd time out before a map loaded. Then I learned the -image thing.

I did it every night when I went to bed, and everytime we went somewhere and no one was using the net.

It took about a week to dl all of it, but now I can play anywhere anytime and get zero lag, and very rarely have to download any files. Usually just for the small updates every week.

Definitely use the -image thing to solve your issue!!

Thanks for the help all, one thing, I'm on broadband (One of the better ones actually) and I'm in Aus, so that's the reason. But the new PM said we'd be getting world class interenet so I hope we do.

And over about 8 hours I'm guessing, it downloaded half of it.
